Our Verdict

We were so excited to be invited to Trentham Monkey Forest.  I think over the past few years we have all learned to appreciate the outdoors more.

Parking was super easy with a huge amount of spacious parking and we managed to get through the entrance turnstyles quickly in just a few minuites, although we can imagine at busy times you should prepare to allow a short time to get through these.

once you get through the turnstyles there is so much open space where the children can run freely, play on the park, there are plenty of picnic benches, a cafe and the lovely new shop full of everything monkey you can imagine.

We decided to head straight into the monkey enclosure are and save the rest for on the way out.

Once inside the enclosure it felt very much like we were out on a beautiful country walk with absolute pleasure of being joined by the monkeys.  The paths were clear, well kept and everywhere clearly signposted and we were fortunate to have beautiful weather and despite the car park seeming very busy with cars it didn't feel too busy anywhere.  We were surprised at just how many monkeys we actually saw of all ages from tiny babies to the grandparents of the monkey families.  It really was amazing to see how relaxed the monkeys were and just went about their daily lives as we strolled by and stood to watch for a while.  There are wooden benches dotted around the park giving you somewhere to sit and observe the monkeys at play.

There was one part of the park where the path became steep and hence sensible comfy shoes are advisable.  The handlers gave some fantastic informative talks about the monkeys, their habitats, histories and daily life at Trentham.  We would recommend trying to catch feeding time too!!

The monkeys walked freely around the park even crossing the paths right in front of us at times and we were surprised at just how many of them came out to say hello and play freely in such close proximity to the visitors.

We enjoyed it so much we actually walked back around a second time.

Outside of the enclosure the picnic area provides plenty of space to sit and enjoy a packed lunch or meal and snacks from the cafe along with a safe play park area for the children to play and ample wide open space.  The new shop is a must visit packed with monkey themed plushies, pens, pencils etc to take home as a momento of the day.

We really enjoyed our visit and will be returning again soon.
