Days Out & Family BreaksOur Verdict
This was our first ever visit to Twycross Zoo so we had zero expectations. On arrival the car park was super busy so we expected the zoo to be pretty packed, however we were incredibly suprised that despite the high number of cars in the car park the zoo itself actually seemed lovely and quiet inside with ample space to enjoy the animals and activities.
The main entrance complex houses an exciting large playbarn surrounded by an open plan cafe perfect for the adults to sit with a cuppa while the kids let of some steam in the playbarn.
We started at the gruffalo trail which was great fun even for the older kids reliving the famous Gruffalo story in a fun interative trail and don't be too quick to get through the doors at the end, there maybe a suprise!!
Sadly one of our favorite animals, the Tiger was nowhere to be seen when we visited, however the enclosure was a really lovely large area with lots of places to be able to view, including a lovely bridge taking you over the top of the enclosure.
There are so many wonderful highlights of the day for us...
The monkeys, chimpanzees and Gorillas were definatley one of our favorites, so many different species and breeds to see and the lovely way in which the enclosures were set up meant they were easily viewable without feeling too intrusive.
The Butterfly enclosure really is beautiful to walk through and if you hold your hand out still enough you may even have one land on you. It was amazing to walk through the enclosure and see so many of these beautiful little insects flying freely around you.
Some of our other favorite highlights include the Giraffes, Penguins, Zebras and it was lovely to see some of the animals with their babies too from the chimpanzees to the goats.
The animals all seemed lovely and relaxed in their environment and as mentioned earlier, despite the volume of cars in the car park never at any point did it feel too busy.
There were plenty of interactive features around the park from the Food, Water and Electricity interactive stations to the latest Monopoly trail celebrating the release of Twycross Zoos new very own dedicated Monopoly game. Follow the instructions in your booklet collecting stamps and info for your special gift at the end.
There are ample places to eat, drink and rest scattered around the park including picnic areas allowing you to take a lovely leisurely stroll around. The waterpark was a big hit with the kids especially on such a warm day, just remember to bring a towel.
Whist some of the animals were unavailable, it looks as though improvements are being made at the attraction as some areas were sealed off and you could see conctruction taking place in some areas so it will be exciting to see whats coming.
An important factor to remember is the super important conservation work done by the park and the educational element for both children and adults. Throughout the park you can find information on the important work being done at Twycross Zoo.
As you exit the zoo you will find yourself in a treasure trove of amazing gifts and souveneirs in the gift shop, all at suprisingly good prices and remember everytime you spend at Twycross Zoo you are helping the amazing cause and plight they are fighting for everyday.
The current anual pass with all tickets really is an incredible deal allowing you to visit anytime for a whole year for the cost of a day pass, you really can't beat that for value.
To summerise, the park is well kept, there is a fantastic range of animals to visit from domestic goats to Giraffes, Tigers, and the beautiful critically endangered Amur Leopards, all four species of apes and so much more.
