CAMP BESTIVAL BY DAY
As you would expect Camp Bestival very much delivered. Just one glance at the programme and you just knew there wouldn't be enough time to do everything, but that's the beauty of Bestival, there is always something to suit all. With so many venues and activities to choose from you make Bestival what you want it to be.
For us at Shropshire Mums, the Shropshire Mums kids absolutely loved the team at the Barclaycard Power Amp stage, so much energy and fun and lets face it all kids love the chance to win a prize. They kept the kids at Bestival entertained with fun and dancing all helped out by the free candy floss and free glitter face painting available throughout the day. If you get the chance to see these guys anywhere they really are an absolute credit to the Barclaycard Power Amp team. We can only assume they too are powered by blue candy floss!!
It takes a good few hours to accustomise yourself with Bestival, with so much to do and see it really is a case of a combination of taking a walk around the entire site and using the programme timings guide to help you make Bestival the experience you want it to be.
The Shropshire Mums kids learned new circus skills at Bigtopmania and even came back with hoola hoops and diablos to continue practicing their skills at home. Bigtopmania showcased skills and workshops and the kids loved watching, learning and just being able to pick up the equipment and get stuck in and have a go themselves. The talent show on Sunday evening was a huge hit with the kids and it was great to see so much talent on display and the children loved being able to showcase their talents to an enthusiastic audience. Every performing child was a winner with a medal to take home.
The Orchestra Of Random Objects in Temple Woods was another favorite. The woodlands of Weston Park were transformed into a lovely tranquil area of peace with an amazing collection of back to nature activities ranging from the aforementioned Orchestra of random objects where various "random objects" such as traffic cones, building pipes, drum barrels, milk churns etc were transformed into instruments for the children to get stuck in and have a play with. The woodlands were filled with the delicate sounds of the instruments playing out. Temple Woods was also home to the most incredible little area, Lizzies Way, in their own words "A world full of wonder and curiosity". Lizzies Way transformed an area of woodland into a fantastic little rustic back to nature play area with mud kitchens, shops, reading teepes (with actual real books to read), a potions water run and selfie frames scattered throughout. Weston Parks own woodland adventure playground and miniature train can also be found nestled within the woods. The adventure playground is a beautiful peaceful escape hidden within the woods with slides, zip lines, climbing frames, mini trampolines and plenty of activities to get the kids to let off some steam. The miniature train ride is a great little addition for just £3 each you will be taken on a mini journey around the woods lasting around 10 mins. Nestled further into the woods was the Slow Motion area with the sleep retreat and the retreat, if Yoga and meditation are your thing this is the place to be, however with two very excited children in tow we didn't venture in here. The lake can also be found through the temple woods where wild swimming and paddle boarding activities are available.
In case you didn't know, Camp Bestival is also home to the .... WORLDS BIGGEST BOUNCY CASTLE.... You simply cannot visit Camp Bestival without letting the kids give this a go, they bounced and bounced to their hearts content and what a thing to be able to tell their mates!!
"What did you do this summer??"
"Bounced on the worlds biggest Bouncy Castle at Camp Bestival".
The Caravanserai is truly mind boggling. Accessed via a small door with chopped up caravans outside you feel like you will be entering a small area... not the case. Once inside it really is an incredible space with seating and booths surrounding the performance area made up of old fairground waltzer cars, chopped up caravans, cars and various other eclectic objects and surroundings. It really cannot be explained and is a must to visit. We were just in time to catch the Cirque Bijou Trapeze special and what a mind blowing performance it was.

There were so many wonderful attractions throughout the site, including the famous Camp Bestival robot with the kids catwalk at his feet, the kids loved doing their own catwalk and the giant robot was certainly an attraction and fantastic photo opportunity point. Dressing up tents throughout the camp, an actual inflatable church where you could dress up and attend a pretend wedding, fairground rides that look amazing at night with a super Big, Big Wheel, giant helter skelter and the good old traditional fairground swings, swing boats etc.

So many workshops and displays for kids to get involved in, from science workshops to circus skills and wood making skills. On the subject of wood making, as with previous Camp Bestivals you can get involved with "The Big Build". Basically you join the team to create a play area made of wood, as the weekend goes on and more and more people add to the build its great to see the finished article on a Sunday evening.
When its time for the kids to enjoy a little relaxation you can head on over to the literary institutes tent to enjoy a book or two or even head over to the board games tent and relax with like minded people with a board game or two.
Highlights for the daytime main Park stage over the weekend included Mr Maker who was fabulous as always and it was great to see he got some of the audience involved making them stand in for the shapes. Mr Tumble took to the main stage on Saturday and as ever was a big hit with the younger festival crew.
