Our Verdict

Encouraging your child’s creativity and artistic creativity at any age can be hard. Musical instruments and note reading might not be "COOL" or their "THING", if this sounds like something you've experienced then let us introduce you to Beat Drop. A team of music production professionals who gear music production and DJ'ing for children and teens into online live classes and course material. They take you novice to ninja and make it interesting and fun along the way, our 9 year old son got to give it a go and here's what we found along the way.

The courses are provided by time slot Zoom chat, pick your course start date, time and then once a week enjoy an hour with a professional showing you the ropes and making learning fun and interactive.

Mitch and his team know their stuff and build on each lesson guiding you through and answering questions when you get stuck. Each lesson builds your child towards being able to produce their own music and make it sound like a professional track. At each stage they download the material before the lesson and afterwards if they wish to go over it again they have access to the full course as a set of pre-recorded videos.

The instructors are fun, knowledgeable and above all cool. Once the session is over you get to test what you've learned in a mini quiz and battle it out with your peers, who will take the prize?

Our son enjoyed each part and after each lesson showed me with excitement what he'd learnt, I have to say that at each stage I was impressed and he seemed proud of what he had achieved too. Winning the end of session quiz seemed to drive his level of listening as he was keen to win.

Overall

For about the same price as a music lesson Beat Drop makes music production cool, fun and accessible to children. Their approach is fun, backed up by online material and might be what your child’s creativity has been missing when looking at other musical avenues. More time for going over things or fun would have been a bonus as some elements especially towards the end where there was lots to cover time became a factor. My son felt he had achieved something through this and we did too.

There is also a great community of Beat Drop members who are encouraged to get to know one another in a safe environment and also a great Beat Drop parents Facebook group enabling parents to support and guide each other and share their children’s achievements. We always love to see Mitch Lee's live vlogs too... keeping it real with his own parenting experiences all the way over in Canada.

The greatest part about Beat Drop is that your first sessions are totally free of charge, giving your child the opportunity to try it out first. Our son completed both the free sessions and then progressed onto the "Next Level Course" which is what our review has been based upon. Should you wish you can then continue onto further learning in "The Jungle".

We would 100% recommend giving this a go for your child, there is absolutely nothing to loose.

Mitch Lee founder and head principle at Beat Drop is an award winning producer and composer, Mitch is an Ableton Certified Trainer and course developer at Beat Drop. He has produced music for companies like Warner Brothers, ESPN, Oakley, Nissan, Lamborghini, Activision, Nintendo, Adidas and many more. Along with working on his side project "Mr Elastic", Mitch loves that Beat Drop gets to pull the curtains back on the secrets of modern day production and is allowed to mentor the next gen of laptop producers.

In short Mitch and the other tutors at Beatdrop have impressive "cool" credentials that kids love and will want to learn from.
